Hey there, I'm Johanna. It's spelled with an h. No, not at the end. In the middle. Yeah, like that.
I've said those words countless times since I arrived in the UK, hence the name of the blog. I'm not just plain old Johanna like I was back home in Finland, I'm Johanna with an h.
I am a journalism freshman aiming for an undergraduate degree and NCTJ qualifications in three years' time. What got me into journalism was a mixture of my parents' tendency to let magazines babysit me while they went about their own business, and accidentally stumbling across a very inspiring journo success story early on in my life. I also have a hard time imagining myself in some other job with much worse opportunities for exploration and development.
I identify myself as a huge video game and pop culture geek, but I know there are far bigger nerds out there than me, so there goes that label. I do play games a lot and spend unhealthy amounts of money on DVD boxes and concert tickets, though. I also have odd little obsessive phases every now and then - I've been into martial arts for a while now, but before this, I was an arts and crafts person. Huh.
Having and regularly updating a blog is one of the requirements of the university course I'm doing, but I hope to eventually transform this blog into something more than just another piece of schoolwork. I used to work for the third biggest regional newspaper in Finland, Turun Sanomat, and did my fair share of blogging for them, but having something to call my own is a completely new experience for me. (Speaking of work, I've also written for the Turku Science Fiction Society's zine, Spin, and dabbled in childcare and printing. Print houses are great.)
In any case, we shall see what the future will bring for me and this blog. I can see myself completely redoing this introduction in a week or two - you never know.
